Overwatch has released a new comic titled “Until the End,” which follows a battle between Sojourn’ team and Vendetta’s forces in Rome, Italy. Sojourn’s voice actor, Cherise Boothe, also narrates the comic. Read on for esports.gg’s breakdown of the story and our theory on what it could mean for the future of Overwatch.
New Overwatch comic recap: Until the End
The new Overwatch comic begins with Sojourn briefing three teams on their mission in Italy. While Team 1 must evacuate as many civilians as possible, Team 2 must retrieve the EMP bomb. As for the Overwatch heroes on Team 3, they are to rendezvous with Sojourn, Tracer, and Winston to fight against Vendetta’s Talon forces and gladiators Zephyrus and Maximus.
During the battle, Sojourn recalls how every member of the rebuilt Overwatch wants to do their part. She also acknowledges that Overwatch’s future depends on the mission’s outcome.
Overwatch sets up major faction war
Interestingly, when we received the digital copy of Overwatch’s “Until the End” comic, we noticed that the file name is called “Endgame.” This reflects the comic’s final title, but it could also be a hint toward what’s coming next. That is, “Endgame” may be foreshadowing an Avengers-style clash among Overwatch, Vendetta’s Talon, and Doomfist’s group, which now includes Doctrine.
Throughout 2026, Overwatch has placed a major focus on story and lore. We saw Genji reuniting with Hanzo and Kiriko, Mizuki leaving Shion, and Vendetta making deals with Shion and the Hashimotos, Domina, Ashe’s Deadlock Gang, the Junkers, and more. Vendetta acquired anima weapons thanks to Shion, Busan’s EMP bomb with the help of the Junkers, and even the Soldier Enhancement Serum from the Soldier Enhancement Program (SEP).
Overwatch endgame theory
There are a lot of character relationships that are of interest, too. For example, Mizuki, Baptiste, and Cassidy were seen together in the most recent chapter of the Overwatch WEBTOON. For context, all three of them left another organization or person. Additionally, Emre and Freja went missing while Vendetta’s deal with Domina went sour.
Then there’s Jetpack Cat, also known as Fika, who was recently revealed to be a Lucheng spy. We even have the upcoming omnic detective hero to consider along with hints of another character scattered throughout the new Grimsvötn map.
With so many characters, factions, and storylines converging, it seems like Overwatch is building toward something major to end the year and kick off 2027.
