Star Fox Free Update Launches September 29 With 4-Player Local Battle Mode

Nintendo has announced a free update for Star Fox that will be released on September 29, 2026. Players can anticipate being able to join up to four players locally in Battle Mode across three new stages. 

Objectives include gaining control of platforms on Katina, destroying asteroids in Sector X, and scanning data modules in Venom. You can also team up with up to four players and join online battles on a single Switch 2. 

The campaign features the Star Fox crew as they aim to restore peace to the Lylat System. Depending on gameplay decisions, the route you take throughout the Lylat System can change, too. The stages themselves also boast multiple paths. The story has new cutscenes with increased character interactions.

There are easy, normal, and expert difficulty levels for the campaign, alongside a Challenge Mode that has already-completed levels with new objectives.

Battle Mode features 4v4 dogfights between Teams Star Fox and Star Wolf, comprising three stages with their own rule sets. GameShare, mouse targeting, and co-op with one player controlling the pilot and the other controlling the gunner will be available.

The Switch 2’s GameChat will feature Star Fox avatars that capture your facial movements, as well as AR filters for attachments.
