Square Enix has released a new batch of screenshots and gameplay details for Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, highlighting five returning companions, equipment forging, character progression, and new battle formations. The JRPG remake launches for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on February 16, 2027.
The latest details focus on five recruitable characters from the original game. These include the Minstrel, a wandering bard, and Tatyana, a mysterious girl who introduces herself under a different name each time players encounter her. Nora operates a smithing workshop in Pidona, while Muse lives in the city’s old quarter as the surviving daughter of House Claudius. Accompanying her is Charl, a former Imperial Guard captain who serves as her personal guard.
Outside combat, the remake features a Renown system that rewards players for completing quests and objectives. Increasing Renown rank grants benefits such as additional ability slots and expanded United Attacks. Players can also forge and reforge equipment at the Pidona Workshop, with additional crafting options becoming available as they locate smiths scattered across the game.
Mr. S, a familiar character from the broader SaGa series, can also be found hiding in various locations. Finding him rewards players with stickers that provide bonuses, including faster forging.
Combat introduces formations making their first appearance in the series, including Triple Incisors and Rampaging Mammoth. The Ley Lines mechanic also affects battles through elemental attunements. Spells matching the battlefield’s active element receive a power boost, while techniques and spells associated with opposing elements can temporarily shift that attunement.
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes additional costumes, equipment, formations, and other content. Players who purchase this edition before launch can receive up to 72 hours of early access. Preorders and early purchases also include the Bonus Accessories Set.
These additions join several previously confirmed remake changes, including expanded story events for the eight protagonists, fewer restrictions on character recruitment, and an Adventure Log for tracking events and objectives. The remake also features adjustments to existing combat systems and returning mini-games.
