Square Enix recently hosted a PAX West panel centered around the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. The panel featured director Naoki Hamaguchi and battle director Teruki Endo, who discussed the journey to Revelation and what to expect.
The hour-long showcase highlighted various gameplay elements embedded within the FITS system alongside other facets. For instance, the distinct concepts for each installment in the trilogy were highlighted.
Remake focused on the concept of Reunion, Rebirth focused on Bonds, and Revelation will focus on Resolve, heading towards a climax built through the player’s “own accord and accumulated decisions.”

The team also explained why they have incorporated new mysteries into this remake series. It creates room for the future for fans already familiar with the story, while making the world more expansive with elements from the Final Fantasy VII Compilation. At the same time, this leads to deeper dives into character portrayals and backstories that weren’t possible to explore in the original game.
Advent Children was the graphical goal of the project, making the remake series a sort of gamified film experience in an ideal visual style for many fans.
The Remake project began thanks to advances in technology, respect for the original title’s appeal and themes, and a desire to reunite with fans.
Perhaps most substantial, though, is the intention to pass Final Fantasy VIII into the future to a new generation. This remake project lays the foundation for new fans to emerge decades from now, while also enabling modern players to immerse themselves naturally.
Further, the goal is to expand Final Fantasy VII’s future, moving it beyond a classic of the past and shaping it into an IP with an “ever-evolving future. ”
